Disaster Preparation

Families with pets must always include their animal family members in an emergency plan. Never forget they are depending on you to keep them calm and safe when disaster strikes. Being prepared includes emergency pet medical supplies, enough food and water (with bowls) for each pet for at least a week, collars and leashes with ID tags including contact phone numbers, portable kennels and blankets.

Create your emergency checklist and make sure each family member keeps a copy with him or her. Have a family “disaster drill” at least twice a year. Doing this will help prepare you and your pets when you must react quickly to a real emergency.
